Tucked away behind the Kerala High Court in the heart of Kochi, Mangalavanam Bird Sanctuary is a hidden emerald oasis spread over just 2.74 hectares. Known as the “green lung of Kochi,” this protected haven plays a crucial role in purifying the city’s air and preserving biodiversity amid urban sprawl. Its core habitat—a shallow tidal lake fringed by endangered mangroves—connects directly to the scenic Kochi backwaters, creating a lifeline for countless species.
